Narconon and the Prescription Drug Epidemic

Narconon and the Prescription Drug Epidemic

Narconon began in 1966 after a hard-core heroin addict found a new approach to drug rehabilitation in a book he read entitled, The Fundamentals of Thought by L. Ron Hubbard. From this simple book he used a series of drills to increase the abilities of himself and his fellow inmates in the Arizona Penitentiary he was confined and each of a dozen men were able to kick life-long heroin addictions.

The Narconon program immediately became the subject of much press and news attention. The seemingly impossible was done: Heroin addicts developed a safe effective drug rehabilitation program in a prison. The program spread broadly as others wished to help their friends and family members off drugs.

New materials were issued making it even easier for others to free themselves from the bonds of drug addiction.

Narconon Expands Worldwide

Today there are more than 120 Narconon drug rehabilitation and education centers worldwide effectively helping people to come off drugs of all kinds. As new drugs have been formulated through the years and new addictions created, Narconon has been there as a stable foundation for those battling addiction to finally win and go on to live a drug-free life.

Although most addicts these days being helped with the Narconon Drug Rehabilitation program aren't confined to prison cells, they are similarly imprisoned by their addictions. Prescription addiction happens to be the largest trend in today's addicted nation.

State and Local Law Enforcement Officers in all nine regions of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) found controlled pharmaceutical drugs as the greatest drug threat in all of 2009. In fact, the threat has more than doubled since 2005. The DEA also notes in 2009 an average of 6,027 individuals per day abused prescription pain relievers for the first time. More people initiated drug use with prescription drugs than with marijuana.

Narconon drug rehabilitation has been there through the drug crazes of the late '60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and today's prescription drug epidemic. Regardless of the drug abused, drug rehabilitation can be accomplished in the same manner. A real understanding of drugs, people and addiction makes this possible. Most students coming into the Narconon program notice a distinct difference that wasn't present in other drug rehabs they went to and then relapsed. This difference is best summed up by students as a real understanding of their situation.

Narconon staff have seen all types of addictions. Over 70% of Narconon students stay clean and don't relapse. This is four times that of the international average. This percentage is surveyed 2 years after Narconon drug rehab.

As more highly addictive substances are produced by drug manufacturers and have been allowed into the marketplace, the more difficult it makes the job of rehabilitation. However, given a willing participant, Narconon drug rehab makes it possible for one not only to come off of drugs but gives one the essential missing life skills to stay off of them.

As the nation is faced with statistics such as 1 in 7 teens admit to abusing prescription drugs to get high, and the number of emergency room visits attributable to pharmaceuticals is up 97% between 2004 and 2009, it is easy to go into despair on the subject.

Narconon Continues to Expand

Throughout the same time period Narconon has been expanding its centers and helping more and more young adults to lead drug-free lives. Narconon's drug education programs have gone out into schools and provided kids and teens with the truth about drugs and prevented them from ever turning to them as a solution.

One of the key factors in drug addiction is lack of life skills to be able to avoid and handle situations that come up on life that ultimately lead one to addiction. It is never too late to learn and Narconon drug rehabilitation teaches addicts those missing skills so they can stay clean.

The New Life Detoxification Program

In addition to life skills, the Narconon program makes it possible for addicts to purify their bodies though the New Life Detoxification program. This unique program has been used worldwide to flush toxins, chemicals, drug residues, pesticides and other harmful elements from the body in a safe manner. Used on the Narconon program, it flushes the harmful drug residues from an addicts body, using a precise regimen of proper nutritional supplements, plenty of fluids, exercise and sweating in a dry sauna each day. The results are nothing short of spectacular. Students routinely report clearer thinking and cessation of drug cravings. These drug cravings are what urges an addict to go back onto drugs, however, properly handled on the Narconon program, this is no longer an issue for the individual.

Narconon has proven itself for over 45 years at being able to overcome even the harshest addictions. Prescription drug addictions are no different.
