Methamphetamine Addiction Treatment

Methamphetamine addiction has been on an increase and the problem is not small in the U.S. In 2008, 850,000 Americans age 12 and older had used methamphetamine at least once in the prior year according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. It has now reached epidemic proportions.

According to the ONDCP, in 2008, an estimated 23.1 million people age 12 and older were in need of treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol use problem. Of those people, 2.3 million received treatment at a specialty facility. Methamphetamine is a drug that needs experienced staff familiar with the substance in order to properly rehabilitate the addict.

The popularity of methamphetamine is mainly among young adults and most of the abusers of methamphetamine are white males and females. This is one drug that is divided almost equally among male and female abusers. The allure of methamphetamine is the initial strong "rush" and fact that its effects last 6 to 8 hours compared with amphetamine. The truth behind this is the reason the effects last longer is the tremendous difficulty the body has in metabolizing the drug. The initial "rush" only lasts a few minutes, after which the user can experience a high state of agitation that can lead to violent behavior.

Methamphetamine in the Body

That initial "rush" is the result of the chemicals hitting neuro-receptors of the brain and then what is described as the ”burn-up” of nutritional reserves occurring in the body. The body is reacting to the drug as the poisonous toxin it is. The result is a rapid depletion of vitamins and minerals as the body's normal ability to metabolize toxins is sent into overdrive. In other words, too much toxin is hitting the bloodstream faster than the body can handle it. The result is damage to the body organs and delicate systems. Due to the body's difficulty in metabolizing methamphetamine, the drug simply recirculates for hours until the body can process it or store it away in fatty tissue. Sometimes the body is unable to handle the quantities of methamphetamine toxins and the result is death.

Methamphetamine is a neurotoxin. This means it is harmful and damaging to the brain. It actually can cause irreversible damage to the brain, including damage to the blood vessels in the brain and cause strokes. The drug also affects the heart and can lead to heart failure and death, even upon a single use. Liver and kidney damage can also occur and in the case of smoking it, lung damage. The more its abused, the higher probability of irreversible brain damage.

The reason methamphetamine is so toxic is not hard to find, despite it not being broadly publicized. Methamphetamine is made from highly corrosive and toxic chemicals each of which is capable of causing death.

The Solution to Methamphetamine Abuse

Despite the damage that may have occurred in the abuse of methamphetamine, there is a solution. The Narconon drug rehabilitation program has had years of experience in helping methamphetamine addicts to become drug free and overcoming methamphetamine abuse.

The initial steps of the Narconon program address the physical and nutritional damage that has occurred from taking the drug and cleansing the body of the harmful drug toxins. The person is given a complete physical exam by a licensed Medical Doctor, any specific Medical Doctor instructions are followed. The person then is put onto a specific vitamins and minerals that help to rebuild the body and also aid in detoxification.

The person also goes through the New Life Detoxification program which flushes the harmful toxins from the addict’s body and thus enables it to rebuild itself. This program is administered under exact supervision. The program consists of exercise, sauna sweating with plenty of fluid intake, and an exact series of nutritional vitamins, minerals and oils. The result is improved clarity of thinking and a stark reduction of drug cravings. Once this portion of the Narconon program is completed, the person moves onto the life skills portion of the program.

When someone is abusing methamphetamine there are invariably personal issues they are trying to escape from. The more the drug is used, the worse these problems become. These can be emotional problems, financial issues, family troubles and so on. The Narconon program is laid out in a precise series of steps that address each of the missing life skills that lead to the person's drug addiction. By doing these steps of the program, an individual learns how to confront these issues in life, instead of withdrawing from them. The end product of a well done Narconon program is a happy, productive, drug-free person.

Narconon has been successfully handling addiction for over 40 years. With an over 70% success rate, it is four times more successful than any program internationally. The Narconon staff are highly trained experts who know drug addiction inside-out.
