Crack Cocaine - Is There a Road Back?

Narconon way back sign

Crack or crack cocaine is a drug with many street names. On the street it is referred to as "ice", "candy", "rocks", "nuggets", "glo", and at least 24 other names. The drug itself is produced by dissolving cocaine in a mixture of water and ammonia or baking soda. When the mixture is boiled a solid substance is formed and dried and becomes the chunks or rocks sold as crack cocaine. These chunks are then smoked. Smoking crack delivers a large quantity of the drug to the lungs and into the system and the result is a very intense high that lasts only a few minutes. The crash from the high is equally as intense and it is this play on euphoria and sudden intense depression that makes crack so viciously addictive.

Since crack is in effect, concentrated cocaine, it is important to look at the effects of cocaine and understand the nature of this drug to better understand crack cocaine. Cocaine in any form is extremely addictive. An addict will willingly go without food and water for just a bit of cocaine. Binges are frequent among heavy users where, for a period of days, the user will obsessively do crack or cocaine moment after moment until the cocaine runs out or they are physically wiped out to the point they can't do more.

It's this highly addictive nature and the difficulty withdrawing from crack or cocaine that makes it so deadly. Cocaine is classified as a Schedule II stimulant drug. This classification is given to drugs known to have a high potential for abuse. It's not a question of will one become addicted to cocaine, it is how soon. Some become addicted on the very first hit.

The Physical Decline of Cocaine Abusers

We've covered the physical effects of cocaine in other articles. The main effects being the constriction of blood vessels and resultant temperature, heart rate and blood pressure increases that can lead to stroke or heart attack or seizure with the use of cocaine. Crack users also experience respiratory problems and a whole host of effects including bleeding lungs and aggression, paranoid behavior and intense anxiety, even psychosis.

There is no positive physical effect from the use of these drugs. One could say "the high it gives" but the high is locked in with the low and the resultant physical and mental damage. One cannot have one without the other. They are known to cause addiction and they do. Physically, the person goes into a worse and worse physical state until at last they find a successful rehab or unfortunately as is often the case, die.

The Road Out

There is a way out from the downward spiral of crack or cocaine addiction. Narconon cocaine rehabilitation is the answer to cocaine addiction. There is an exact cycle of addiction and a way to undo it. The Narconon program is the successful road out proven over 44 years. As Narconon is drug free (the name itself means, "Drugs-No") there is no risk of the addict coming to rehab only to be hooked on another drug. Narconon does not use replacement medications to get the addict off of crack. The results from the Narconon program speak for themselves.

A Narconon Graduate's Experience

One graduate of the Narconon program stated the following, "I am glad that I came to the Narconon program. It has molded me into a better person.
Other than giving me the knowledge to stay off drugs, it’s helped me get responsible and gave me the confidence to go to school and make something of myself.
"I learned how to be a better father to my children, it helped me to learn how to be stress-free, alert, focused and observe what's around me. I regained my trust in myself and learned how to restore that trust in others. Although parts of the program were difficult, I had a good time here.
"I'm glad I no longer have to rely on crack as a crutch to make it through each day. I appreciate everything that the staff have done for me and everyone has become like family to me. I'm glad I no longer have a drug of choice and am free of crack forever!"
-C.H.

This type of success and result from Narconon are a usual experience. Narconon staff communicates and understand the factors of addiction and they address the person as an individual not a "patient". The Narconon program provides the student with the life skills courses they need to overcome their specific addiction. However, it is not all just theoretical. There are precise drills, including communication and even study drills that are done to enable the person to use the things he learns about and demonstrate competence in them.

Narconon can be the answer to crack and cocaine addiction. Even long-term addicts are brought through the standard steps of the program to the same result; a drug free life. It is just a matter of helping the crack addict to arrive at a Narconon rehabilitation center. Narconon intervention staff can assist with that process as well.
